About MUSC Malaysia

From the President of the Malaysian Red Devils who is also the Branch Secretary of the Malaysian Chapter of the Manchester United Supporters Club – Malaysia

To all Manchester United Fans in Malaysia

A sincere welcome to you for logging onto our Official Website. It has taken many years and taken many people to put this website together; And although we have never ever gone overboard to tried to create awareness of our Clubhouse in SS2/75 Petaling Jaya; the time has come for us to reach out to fans and supporters who have been misled by the many websites and links declaring themselves to be the Official Supporters Club in Malaysia. It is not really important whether these people are official or not. What is important is that we are promoting and supporting the football club. There is no reason to misled anyone.

MUSC Malaysia was formerly managed by MUFC Fans Sdn. Bhd., formed in 1992 when SHARP was the shirt sponsor of Manchester United. I was then the Finance Director of SHARP MALAYSIA and together with the late Dato’ T Noguchi; we set up the Manchester United Supporters’ Club in Malaysia in Section 14 Petaling Jaya. Two years’ later we moved toa rented premises in Section 2. ( above an Electrical Appliance Shop).

There was a fire (arson) after the Team visited Malaysia in 1995 and with constant electrical problems due to ‘overloading’ of electrical appliances, we decided to move to our present site ie. across the road in a residential area. It is now more than 10 years since we moved here. Meanwhile 3 ‘OUTPOSTS’ were set up in Central Market, Ampang Point Shopping Complex and Amcorp Mall. These were meant to be meeting places for the local fans and travelling REDS.

We found these places attracting not only our supporters but those from other clubs. It was not worth the trouble and today only the Clubhouse is around. Small as it may be, but it has great history and memories. Former players who have visited us include Denis Law, George Best, Sir Bobby Charlton and Eric Cantona. Others who dropped by include Bryan Robson, Paul Parker, Andrei Kanchelskis, David May, Viv Anderson, Jesper Blomqvist, Brian McClair, Peter BarnesUnited has been winning and no. of members have increased. Glory hunters and sponsors also jumped on the bandwagon. We have nothing against them but the loyal fans remained with the Supporters Club. There was however a time when we were ‘disowned’ by Old Trafford when Merchandises United came on the scene. Today we are back as the Official Branch but it still doesn’t stop others from portraying themselves as ‘official’.

We are listed in the United Year Book as the Malaysian Branch and the local fans are known as the Malaysia Red Devils. In faraway Kota Kinabalu we have an affiliate group known as Sabah Red Devils. Besides our yearly get-together (Anniversary Dinner/Lunch, we still go for matches in Old Trafford, have our Chinese New Year Open house and for the last fire/six years we also visit New Trafford (Arau Palace in Perlis).

You may not be a member but that does not stop you from supporting United and visit our Website. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Hairul for setting up the website and organize viewing parties in various places in the Klang Valley as well as Johore, Trengganu, Pahang and Ipoh.

Best regards
Laurence How
