Match Report

Substitute, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez pops up with a crucial header, 9 minutes from to time, to secure an important 1-1 draw for the Red Devils at Anfield.

The game saw Man United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, rested a number of first team players who went on international duty for the past two weeks. Players such as Wayne Rooney, Nani, Anderson & Chicharito all started the match on the bench in a bid to keep the team fresh. However it turned out to be a shot in the foot, as Liverpool bossed the midfield with players such as Charlie Adam & Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard; who started his first game for the Kop, making darting runs and dictating play as the match went on.

The match was a typical cagey affair, with both sides trying to get the best out of each other. However after a soft free kick given by the referee on a foul by Rio Ferdinand on Charlie Adam (albeit with the faintest of touches), the Liverpool skipper managed to curl a shot that evaded both David De Gea between the sticks as well as Ryan Giggs, who should have held his ground.

United immediately sent on the big guns, with Wayne Rooney, Nani & Chicharito all coming on for the final stages of the game. And it all paid off after 5 minutes of Chicharito’s introduction, with a well delivered corner by Nani, who was met by Danny Welbeck & nodded home from close range from the Mexican international. After the equalizer, it was all end to end stuff, with both teams trying to snatch a last minute winner. It was the home side who nearly nicked it with a shot from Jordan Henderson, which nearly went into the top corner, but a brilliant save by David De Gea saw the match ended with a well deserved point for the Red Devils who will now travel to Romania for their next game against Otelul Galati in the Champions League.
