Match Report

Manchester United are through to the 4th round of the FA Cup after disposing fierce city rivals Manchester City, 2-3 at the Etihad Stadium.

United were set to be cruising after scoring 3 unanswered first half goals in the first half. The first goal was scored by Wayne Rooney, after a neat build up which saw Rooney heading the ball from a wonderful cross on the right flank into the top right hand corner of the goal.

With only a minute after the first goal has been scored, United were given an added advantage after City’s skipper, Vincent Kompany was harshly sent off for a clean two footed tackle on Nani. United turned on the heat and was rewarded by a great goal by Danny Welbeck as well as a second goal by Wayne Rooney after he nodded home the rebound after his penalty attempt was saved by the keeper.

What should have been a walk in the park for the visiting team after City played for most of the game with 10 men were surely diminished after Kolarov’s spectacular free kick flew into the goal with the hapless Lindergaard again beaten in the 2nd minute after the restart for the second consecutive game.

That sparked what would have been a remarkable comeback from the blue half of Manchester & the momentum looked to be going their way after Aguerro scored from inside the 6 yard box after his first shot was parried by Lindergaard. They kept knocking on United’s door and almost grabbed an equaliser in the final minutes of the game but was kept out by a sea of Red tide in front of goal.

United will now face legendary foes Liverpool in the next round of the FA Cup and would need to keep up the momentum for the upcoming games.
