Match Report

Manchester United failed to climb on top of the Barclays Premier League after a shock defeat to bottom table dwellers Blackburn Rovers on Sir Alex Ferguson’s 70th birthday.

Blackburn Rovers’ top scorer netted twice in the 16th & 50th minute to put Blackburn into a 2-0 lead before Dimitar Berbatov scored a brace to pull Manchester United back into the game with 30 minutes to go.

United were to be denied any points after Hanley managed to beat David De Gea from a corner kick. Phil Jones almost equalised for the home team, but was denied by a brilliant block off the goal line.

United still sits 2nd in the table with the same points as City, but have played one game more. They will hope to bounce back with a trip to Newcastle in 3 days time.
