Manchester United has suffered it’s first back to back defeat in the Premier League this season after a poor showing at St James’ Park against Newcastle.
Rio Ferdinand & Anders Lindegaard returned to the starting lineup but neither of them could stop Demba Ba from scoring after a quick volley which left the goalkeeper rooted to the pitch as he watched the ball went into the goal.
The Red Devils had a few half chances with Dimitar Berbatov almost scoring from a header & an important block by former Red, Danny Simpson, who saw Wayne Rooney’s effort thwarted off the goal line.
United were further stunned after Yohan Cabaye scored a beautiful free kick just under 2 minutes into the second half. In the final minutes of normal time, Phil Jones gifted Newcastle a third goal after a long clearance by Tim Krul was poorly met by the head of the young defender.
After impressing and keeping clean sheets in his previous games, Anders Lindegaard could do nothing with all three of the goals scored at St James’ Park. United are now 3 points behind league leaders Manchester City with tough games coming up.
Sir Alex Ferguson is refusing to panic, but surely a couple of transfer targets would not harm the clubs chances of retaining their crown come end of May.
